Training Tip Tuesday: When should I start training my puppy?

There’s nothing more fun than having a puppy, right?.....

Well, let's be honest. Having a puppy can be an absolute whirlwind of challenges and celebrations. In November of 2023, Soap, my Border Collie puppy, came into my life at 11 weeks old, and since then, we've been on a journey of crate training, potty training, socialization, basic obedience, and everything in between. And as Soap approaches the teenage phase, I know the adventure is only just beginning.

Navigating puppy ownership and training is far from straightforward; there's no one-size-fits-all manual for raising them. Instead, it's about embracing the process of trial and error, learning from setbacks, and celebrating each small victory along the way.

But amidst the chaos, there's the beauty that comes with watching your puppy grow and learn, even through the sleepless nights and countless messes. Throughout it all, positive reinforcement has been our guiding principle – whether it's a treat or a simple "good boy," rewarding good behavior has been key in shaping Soap's development and deepening our bond.

So, if you're embarking on this journey too, know that you're not alone. With patience, love, and a solid training plan, you'll soon find yourself raising a well-behaved and happy puppy. Over the next few months, I'll be sharing the insights and strategies that have helped me navigate the early puppy months. And remember, I'm here to support you every step of the way.
